    Overview

    Landmark worked in partnership with ONS to deliver a range of Geographic Information services to go live in March 2013 and which is now in a mature operational environment.

    ONS strategy was to make their wide-ranging geographic products and data sets relating to key national statistical indicators available to a much wider base of users, the public, and to promote visibility, awareness and usage of the plethora of geospatial information held within the organisation.

    ONS, like many national standards agencies, is also mandated to comply with European INSPIRE regulations in relation to geospatial metadata standards.

    ONS existing geospatial systems, tools and processes were based on old technology and expensive to change

    Our Solution

    Landmark’s fresh and innovative approach comprised a whole new “open” methodology and included:

    • An external facing EU INSPIRE Directive compliant dissemination Geoportal incorporating
    • Discovery services
    • Network services
    • Monitoring and reporting
    • Rights management
    • A geo-referencing tool, to allow users to submit postcodes, have these formatted and cleaned; and matched against the existing ONS postcode product
    • A publication Preview environment to facilitate the update, validation and quality assurance of geospatial information before publication into live
    • Support Services to support and advise on ONS GIS related architecture and activities
    • Data migration into the new solution
    • Full quality assurance, testing and support environment

    Key Features

    A range of technical competencies were included in the delivery of the contract. These comprise:

    • Sophisticated geospatial development and spatial/network analysis tools within an ESRI toolkit environment
    • Specialist INSPIRE bolt-on tools
    • JavaScript web development tools
    • Agile configuration methodology within a PRINCE2 management framework
    • Rapid deployment within a 12 week period
    • Managed service delivery via private-cloud VMware virtualised environment
    • ITIL service delivery to stringent SLAs – all achieved on an ongoing basis
